Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is gearing up for a busy summer at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea remain keen on signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, but the Blues are already drawing up a Plan B incase they miss out on the England international. Before the coronavirus crisis, Sancho looked set to leave Germany this summer.
The 20-year-old is keen on a return to England having previously failed to make the cut in the Manchester City first-team set up.
Sancho has become a trailblazer for young British players to go and test themselves overseas, where they’re more likely to be handed senior opportunities.
The forward has been a revelation in Dortmund and is enjoying his finest season to date having scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga, he has also provided 14 assists.
His productivity and age make him an incredibly attractive option for Chelsea, who are looking to make amends in the market following their transfer ban.
But the Blues accept that Sancho could join Manchester United, given their commitment to signing him.
For that reason, Goal claim that Chelsea are eyeing Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze as an alternative.
The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in La Liga and has pace to burn.
Not only that, but the Nigerian international is also comfortable on either flank.
Lampard is looking to bolster his options going forward and is set to lose Willian and Pedro on free transfers upon the expiry of their contracts.
He has already brought in Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, who will join up with his new team-mates from July 1.
Last month, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi urged his close friend Sancho to join him in west London.
“Me and Sancho are mad close, we talk every other day, always seeing how each other are and how were doing,” he told Michael Dapaah.
“We make sure that were both doing well, obviously hes doing amazing and having a great season.
“Were always making sure each other is good. Obviously hes a great player, I love playing with him – hes a great player to play with.
“For England as well weve played all the way through the ages so the link up has always been there.
“I played against him sometimes in the Youth Cup games or we would play each other for England, the link up has always been there and weve always loved playing with each other The way we play with each other we just know where each other is on the pitch every time and we just love to play with each other.
“I dont know [if hell come]. Of course I would love it if he came to Chelsea.
“Weve had a great partnership throughout, the way we play with each other is amazing. If he came, the link up will still be there.”
