UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – YouGov poll shows Reform UK ahead at 28%, Labour sinks to 20%, Conservatives at 17%, as Nigel Farage vows mass deportations of migrants.

According to a fresh YouGov poll for Sky News, Labour’s popularity has dropped to its lowest level of this parliamentary term.

YouGov’s poll about Labour’s declining support

Labour under Sir Keir Starmer hits 20% in recent polling, marking its lowest level since last year, while the Conservatives trail at 17%.

Nigel Farage’s Reform UK leads the latest poll at 28%, following its plan to deport hundreds of thousands of migrants.

How did Nick Thomas-Symonds defend Labour against recent poll figures?

During an interview on Sky News, Nick Thomas-Symonds, EU relations minister, said the government had to make tough decisions to stabilise public finances at the start of this parliament.

He argued Labour acted in the “national interest” by negotiating an EU reset agreement that lowers costs for supermarkets and shoppers.

The minister said,

“That is acting in the national interest; that is not about particular opinion polls you are showing me today.”

Mr Thomas-Symonds stated,

“That is about work the prime minister asked me to do and to prepare for before this government came into office, and that is what this government does. It does the hard yards of delivery for the British people.”

He said, “What Nigel Farage does is to stoke problems and offer empty promises for their solution.”

What did Nick Thomas-Symonds say about Nigel Farage’s plans for Britain?

In a speech later today, Torfaen MP Nick Thomas-Symonds will confront Nigel Farage, claiming the Reform UK leader seeks to see Britain “fail.”

He will say,

“Nigel Farage’s manifesto at the next election will say in writing he wants to take Britain backwards, cutting at least £9 billion from the economy, bringing with it a risk to jobs and a risk of food prices going up.”

The EU minister is expected to say,

“Mr Farage wants Britain to fail. His model of politics feeds on it, offering the easy answers, dividing communities and stoking anger.”

What did Reform UK say about Labour’s impact on British businesses?

A Reform UK spokesperson stated,

“No one has done more damage to British businesses than this Labour government. With 157,000 fewer people on payroll since Labour took office, their jobs tax is stifling success and hitting small and medium-sized businesses across the country.”

They added,

“Cosying up to the EU and leaving us entangled in reams of retained EU law which Kemi Badenoch failed to scrap will not resuscitate Britain’s struggling economy.”

How did Nigel Farage view the current UK-EU food agreement?

The UK government plans to finalise a lasting agreement with the EU on food and drink within the next 18 months.

The temporary deal, implemented in June, scrapped checks on certain EU fruit and vegetables, avoiding border fees, and is set to expire in January 2027.

Nigel Farage has recently called for the UK-EU deal to be scrapped. In May, he warned that the new SPS rules would return the UK to Brussels’ influence while sacrificing sovereignty for little gain.

YouGov’s survey about public views on asylum seeker protests

After recent protests outside asylum seeker hotels, YouGov conducted research to understand public opinion on the demonstrations.

A survey of 4,828 adults in Great Britain found that 54% believe the protests are justified. In contrast, 34% believe the demonstrations are unjustified, and 11% have no opinion.

What did Luke Tryl say about Nigel Farage’s chances of becoming PM?

Luke Tryl, the executive director of More in Common UK, stated,

“Only 13 per cent of Britons are confident Keir Starmer will remain in post after the next election, while a striking 41 per cent say they simply don’t know what the next elected government will look like.”

He said,

“In fact, the public rate Nigel Farage’s chances of becoming prime minister as highly as those of the current PM, with Reform voters particularly convinced their man will be walking into Downing Street.”

Mr Tryl added,

“It’s yet another sign of the Reform leader’s ability to cast a political shadow far larger than his party’s presence in Westminster.”
