Richmond upon Thames (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Richmond upon Thames borough is ranked the 3rd safest in London and 5th in the UK by Get Licensed, with 67.1 crimes per 1,000 residents, a Crime Severity Score of 9.8, and a Safety Score of 7.55.

As Richmond Nub News reported, a new study by security training company Get Licensed ranked the Richmond upon Thames borough as the 3rd safest in London and the 5th safest across the UK. The research included the police-recorded crime, changes in crime severity, rates of reoffending, and antisocial behaviour. It also included data on public CCTV coverage.

What makes Richmond upon Thames one of London’s safest boroughs, with 67.1 crimes per 1,000?

Richmond was recorded to have an annual offending rate of 67.1 crimes per 1,000 people. The annual change in crime was only 0.9%. These results indicate the borough’s low level of crime and measures to protect against crime.

Richmond upon Thames recorded a Crime Severity Score of 9.8. This indicates the low level of crime in the borough. The borough also has a reoffending rate of 18.83% resulting in an overall safety score of 7.55 out of 10.

Officials also noted that the surrounding boroughs excelled in the rankings very well. Sutton was reported as London’s safest borough and the safest borough in the United Kingdom. Kingston upon Thames was reported as the 2nd safest borough in London. The report also noted potential shortfalls in local safety, including the lack of any licensed security professionals, such as trained CCTV operatives and door supervision professionals.

Richmond upon Thames has historically been viewed as one of London’s safer boroughs. In 2015, the borough had one of the lowest crime rates in the whole of the capital, with rates of 72 offences per 1,000 residents. After a small increase in Antisocial behaviour in 2018, crime prevention measures such as more CCTV and additional police presence in the community were implemented. A similar national ranking by Get Licensed in 2020 also placed Richmond among the top 5 safest areas in the UK.
