Southwark (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A man in his 60s is in life-threatening condition after an altercation outside a Walworth pub, prompting a major Southwark police investigation into the incident.

Just after 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 20, the Ambulance Service called the police to Maddock Way on the Brandon Estate, where they discovered a male with severe injuries.

The individual had “been involved in an altercation prior to sustaining his injuries,” according to the Met.

After receiving treatment on the spot, he was brought to the hospital, where his condition was determined to be life-threatening.

Officers are still investigating, but no arrests have been made.

The area outside the Canterbury Arms bar in Southwark was still roped off yesterday morning (Friday, November 21, 2025), according to eyewitnesses who spoke to the News. It was estimated that around ten police officers were still present at the scene at midday.

The spokesperson for the Met said:

“At 13:15hrs on Thursday, 20 November police were called by London Ambulance Service to Maddock Way, Southwark after a man sustained serious injuries.

It’s believed that the man was involved in an altercation prior to sustaining his injuries.

The man in his 60s was taken to hospital, where his condition has been assessed as life-threatening.

No arrests have been made at this stage and officers continue to make enquiries.”

Have local councillors or the Met issued community safety guidance for Walworth?

The councillors and the Metropolitan Police have been laboriously engaged with the community in Walworth through the North Walworth Safer Neighbourhoods Team. This team collaborates with original authorities, community leaders, and residents to identify and address policing precedences specific to the area.

They run details targeting anti-social behavior and medicine exertion, including around crucial spots like Nursery Row Demesne and Walworth Road. The Safer Neighbourhoods Team also provides updates and safety guidance through newsletters, ward panel meetings, and direct occupant engagement to enhance original safety and reduce crime.

While no new immediate statements have been released, the pub and businesses are anticipated to follow these established safety practices to help maintain a secure terrain.

While there has been no separate, specific premonitory issued solely in response to the recent altercation, ongoing community safety enterprise and communication channels remain open and active to support Walworth residents.
