Havering (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Exhibitions will showcase proposals for Balgores SEND School in Gidea Park, Havering, allowing residents to give feedback on the major development plans.

On the location of Balgores Fields, Havering Council has suggested constructing a new SEND school.

The council selected developer Galliford, and the plans have been in the works for over a year. The plan was attempted to be drafted in October of last year, but it is currently being discussed with the public in greater detail.

The preliminary drawings will be on display for the public tomorrow, May 29, and Saturday, May 31, at the Royal Liberty School.

Additionally available to discuss the concepts and respond to inquiries will be representatives from Galliford Try’s design team and the council.

“Hear the voices of those affected or impacted in some way” is something the council is eager to do, according to Councillor Oscar Ford, children and youth cabinet member.

Cllr Ford told the Recorder:

“We are very excited about this project which will provide a new first-class facility for children with special educational needs.

It will be one of the biggest SEND schools in the country and will help address the desperate need for this type of facility for our children.

It will mean shorter and less stressful journeys for children and their families and ensure they are closer to friendship groups and their local community.”

The council is collaborating with a “highly experienced team” that is aware of the needs of SEND children and families, he continued.

300 students with autism spectrum disorder and severe learning needs, ages four to 19, would be served by the proposed Balgores SEND School.

It would be a partially one-story, partially two-story structure with distinct spaces for various age groups.

The original plans include for a sports hall, a hydrotherapy pool, and a soft outdoor play area in addition to classrooms.

The two public exhibitions will take place on May 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. and on May 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On the project’s new website, www.balgoresschoolconsultation.co.uk, residents may also learn more and voice their opinions.
