Barnet (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A Barnet takeaway has been handed a two-out-of-five food hygiene rating following a recent inspection, according to the Food Standards Agency.
The Food Standards Agency awarded the score following an evaluation on September 11th to Dixy Fried Chicken, a takeaway restaurant located at 78 Watling Avenue in Burnt Oak.
This indicates that 103 (45%) of Barnet’s 230 rated takeaways have a rating of five, while none have a rating of zero.
A Barnet takeaway has received a new food hygiene rating of 2 out of 5, meaning improvement is necessary.
A rating of 2 means there are issues with food hygiene practices or facilities that need to be improved. However, the issues are not urgent.
Food hygiene ratings range between 0 (urgent improvement required) and 5 (very good hygienic standards).
A rating of 2 means the takeaway is still able to operate, however changes are needed to improve food handling, cleanliness, or safety routines.
For reference, Barnet Council routinely inspects food businesses and gives ratings, which are then made public, to help inform the public. Takeaways and other types of food establishments with a lower score are usually provided with advice on how to resolve issues when they fall below a certain score for a period, until they can be inspected again and improve their ratings.
What specific issues led to the 2 rating?
The specific issues that are likely to trigger a food hygiene rating of 2 out of 5, as recently given to a Barnet takeaway, typically indicate improvements are necessary in key areas covered by food safety legislation.
Some hygiene or cleanliness issues, such as a lack of cleaning or cleaning schedule or risk of contamination. Food handling practices associated with direct cross-contamination, improper food storage or preparation practices or evidence of poor food handling.
Issues with premises, equipment and/or structure in need of attention to eliminate pest activity, ingress or contamination. Training for staff or staff failures to comply with food hygiene standards in the safe preparation of food.
