After getting married in April 2012, actress Carey Mulligan, 35, and Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford, 33, are still very much in love. The couple got engaged in August 2011, and Carey was given a silver diamond ring with blue sapphire gems on either side.
She was first photographed wearing the beautiful ring as she waited for a flight from Sydney airport in September 2011.
According to Rolling Stone Magazine, Carey and Marcus started dating after Carey went to see Mumford & Sons play a secret gig in Nashville in February 2011.
A few days later, Carey and Marcus were seen heading to a secret Arcade Fire show together in New York.
Although their courtship was brief before they decided to tie the knot, the couple in fact knew each other as children.
They met for the first time at a church camp in London when they were about 12 years old and, later, continued their friendship by writing letters to each other.
As time passed, they lost touch, but were reunited in 2011.
Marcus was born in California, but his family moved to Wimbledon, southwest London when he was six months old. Carey was born in London and also grew up in the capital.
However, the pair’s wedding took place in April 2012 on a farm in Somerset.
Although low-key and intimate, actors Colin Firth, Sienna Miller and Jake Gyllenhaal were among the guests at the wedding.
According to Vogue, Carey wore a dress by Miuccia Prada for the ceremony.
Prada also dressed the groom, the bridesmaids, the ushers, and the mother-of-the-bride.
In her first public appearance since the wedding, Carey attended the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in May 2012, on the arm of her new husband.
The actress’ gown – a sequined halter neck number with a gold bodice and a blue-silver skirt – was once again by Prada.
Next to her engagement ring was Carey’s latest piece of invaluable jewellery: a classic but simple golden wedding band.
The talented couple have two children, a daughter and a son. Evelyn was born in 2015 and Wilfred in 2017.
Carey’s latest film is ‘Promising Young Woman’, which was released on streaming platforms last week.
Directed by Emerald Fennell – who plays Camilla in Netflix’s The Crown – the film follows thirty-year-old Cassie, played by Carey, as she plans to revenge her friend’s rapist and those responsible for her subsequent death.
Carey stars alongside Adam Brody, Sam Richardson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
Mumford & Sons’ most recent album, ‘Delta Tour EP’ – a collection of recordings from the past three years of being on the road – was launched last November.
Marcus also sings the backing vocals in Taylor Swift’s ‘Cowboy Like Me’, which features on her recent ‘evermore’ album.
