Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Croydon’s long-delayed Regina Road redevelopment advances, with construction on hundreds of new council homes expected to begin in March 2026.

With the planning committee’s unanimous approval, the project which would replace the current blocks in South Norwood with up to 340 new homes recently passed a crucial obstacle.

The Greater London Authority is now reviewing it in its second phase.

Construction can start as soon as the GLA approves the plans, bringing people closer to the contemporary, safe, and energy-efficient homes they have been demanding.

Along with new green areas, a multipurpose games area, enhanced lighting and security, a nursery, a community hub, and improved walking and bicycle paths, the program will provide 225 affordable houses, including at least 215 council dwellings.

After locals were involved at every stage of the process, Lovell Partnerships was chosen as the preferred contractor to complete the repairs.

To make sure the named company meets the conditions and conditions of the neighborhood, the Regina Road Resident Working Group supported in shaping the selection process.

Lovell, which has over 50 years of experience in redevelopment and has delivered over 4,000 affordable houses this time, says it’ll unite nearly with residents as the design moves forward.

Also, the corporation promises further than 100 internship openings as well as broader backing for education, chops, and original business.

Lorraine Casey, Regional Managing Director for London at Lovell Partnerships Ltd, said:

“We are delighted to have been selected by Croydon Council to deliver the regeneration of Regina Road.

This is a resident-led project, and Lovell is proud to work with the Council and the community to help create an inclusive and welcoming place for local people.

We look forward to working with residents, partners and community groups to create opportunities in skills, education, jobs and local enterprise that will support and strengthen the Croydon community for years to come.”

Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, said:

“Selecting Lovell is another major step forward for Regina Road and for the community who have waited a long time for change.

We are now moving from plans into delivering the modern council homes that residents deserve.

Lovell has the experience and the approach needed for a project of this scale.

They support my priority to raise housing standards, provide more affordable homes and build a Croydon that people are proud to call home.”

How will construction affect local transport and parking?

Construction of large- scale redevelopment systems like Croydon’s Regina Road estate generally impacts original transport and parking through increased business from construction vehicles, temporary road closures or lane restrictions, and loss of on- road parking spaces near the point.

To minimize dislocation, plans generally include business and parking operation strategies similar as designated construction vehicle routes, controlled point access, and stimulants of public transport use.

Inventors frequently prepare Construction Traffic Management Plans reviewed by original authorities to alleviate traffic, insure road safety, and save as important parking as possible for residents and commuters during the construction period. This approach helps reduce detainments, manage parking dearths, and maintain rambler and road stoner safety around the construction zone.
