Derby will host a celebration of English culture on Saturday ahead of St George’s Day, which falls on Tuesday. The city centre will come alive with free events designed to showcase English heritage and culture “in all its eccentricities.”

The festivities will take place at St Peter’s Cross and the Market Place from 12:00 BST to 14:00. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including knight training, medieval games, arts and crafts workshops, puppet shows, and theatrical retellings of the story of St George and the dragon.

Organized by Derby LIVE, The Lost Boys theatre company, and Derby BID, the event promises a family-friendly atmosphere with a vibrant mix of groups and performers.

City Councillor Nadine Peatfield expressed enthusiasm for the celebration, stating, “As ever, Derby is proud to celebrate St George’s Day with a whole host of family-friendly activities that will bring the story of our patron saint to life. We’re delighted to have such a vibrant mix of groups and performers taking part in what is sure to be an excellent event.”
