Ealing (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Ealing residents are encouraged to nominate outstanding local councillors for a prestigious national award recognising service and leadership in the community.
Residents of Ealing still have time to nominate a local councillor for the annual Cllr Awards, which recognize their contributions to the community, with just over a week left.
Residents of 24 Ealing Council local wards are represented by 70 elected council members from Ealing Labour, Ealing Liberal Democrats, and Ealing Conservatives throughout Ealing and its seven towns.
The shortlist for the 2025 Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) and CCLA Cllr Awards will be revealed in the fall, and entries for the awards conclude at midnight on June 11, 2025. On November 18, 2025, a special ceremony at London’s Guildhall will reveal the winners.
Community Champion, Leader of the Year, Young Councillor of the Year, Innovator of the Year, and Lifetime Legend are the five categories that make up the Cllr Awards. By going here, residents can nominate a candidate for their local ward councillor.
Only one Ealing councillor has received recognition from the Cllr Awards in its sixteen-year history. At the 2012 awards, Zahida Abbas Noori, a former councilor for the Southall Broadway district, was “Highly Commended” in the Community Champion of the Year category.
Nominations for the awards are open to residents as well as council members and officers.
Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive of LGIU, said:
“Councillors play a crucial role in the wellbeing of our communities – from improving public spaces to championing local initiatives – and their efforts touch our everyday lives in countless ways.”
Mr Carr-West added:
“Though much of their work happens quietly behind the scenes and without fanfare, their contributions are vital. That’s why the Cllr Awards are so important – they shine a spotlight on the dedication and impact of those who often go unrecognised and we’re excited and humbled to see the inspiring nominations that are already coming in.”
How are residents encouraged to nominate their local councillors for the award?
Before the deadline, which is just over a week away, Ealing residents are urged to nominate their local council members for the national Councillor Awards by completing the online nomination form. The public can participate in the process, which enables locals to honor council members who have significantly improved their areas.
The nomination process is simple and entails giving a council member’s background and a justification for their accomplishments and dedication. This public participation aids in showcasing the important work done by local council members in categories like Innovator of the Year and Community Champion.
Five categories are included in the awards: Innovator of the Year, Young Councillor of the Year, Leader of the Year, and Community Champion
