Hammersmith and Fulham (Parliament Politics Magazine) – TfL confirms eastbound trains will not stop at Barons Court in Hammersmith and Fulham on 19 January, reversing an earlier pledge to keep the station open.
For five months, travelers using Earls Court to get to the capital’s center will have to utilize other stations.
TfL assured Hammersmith & Fulham Council at the beginning of 2025 that the station
“will remain fully operational for the entire duration of these works”
and that
“we do not plan to close Barons Court partially or fully at any point”
as major renovations to the Grade ll listed station got underway.
However, TfL informed H&F in early December that conditions had altered and that the station’s eastbound and westbound platforms will close for extended periods of 2026.
“After work started, it quickly became clear more extensive repairs were needed,”
TfL’s Andrew Hatch wrote.
“These repairs can only be safely done by temporarily closing each platform.”
Thus, the eastbound platform at Barons Court, which serves both District and Piccadilly line trains, will be blocked from January 19 to early June.
The westbound platforms to Ealing Broadway, Richmond, Heathrow Airport, Uxbridge, and Rayners Lane will then close starting in mid-July and remain closed until the end of 2026.
Still, both stations will temporarily renew from June 6 to June 21 due to the large number of suckers using Barons Court for the Queens Tennis Tournament (although track closures are also listed for June 13 and 14!).
Barons Court station was constructed in 1904, and work on its restoration and rehabilitation started in February 2025. Replacing worn platform edges is part of it. In spring 2027, things will get back to normal.
Will step free access be affected during the eastbound closure?
Step-free access at Barons Court station will remain innocent during the eastbound Piccadilly line check starting January 19, 2026, as the station lacks lifts or escalators and relies on stairs (26- 27 way to platforms) for all access westbound Piccadilly and District line services continue typically, conserving being (limited) availability.
Barons Court isn’t step-free no stair-free entrance/ exit, with position underpasses only between same direction lines (westbound Piccadilly/ District, eastbound Piccadilly/ District); check impacts eastbound Piccadilly only, so District line druthers
retain current stair access.
TfL recommends District line (Edgware Road- Upminster) or motorcars (9, 27, 283) for eastbound trip; westbound Piccadilly innocent, maintaining partial station usability.
