Edinburgh rivals express disappointment over Scottish Cup ticket prices

The Scottish Football Association confirmed that the Edinburgh derby last-four showdown will take place at Hampden at 12.15pm on Saturday April 16, with Celtic facing Rangers at 2pm at the national stadium the following day.The Edinburgh clubs are unhappy at the prices supporters will have to pay to attend the match, with adult tickets for the showpiece match ranging from ÂŁ25 to ÂŁ35.

“After receiving the ticket information from the SFA, there were further conversations regarding the price increase and expense to our supporters,” Hearts said in a statement on their website.

“Our concerns were echoed by Hibernian as both clubs stressed that in the current climate we want to make football affordable for everyone.

“Despite the pricing, we hope to see a sea of maroon at Hampden in what’s sure to be a special match.”

Hibs explained that the situation has caused “great frustration”.

“We completely understand how much it costs to be a football supporter and how expensive it is to follow your team up and down the country, especially in the current climate,” they said in a statement.

“We explained this in detail to the SFA, however, they have not moved on their decision, which is incredibly disappointing and has caused us great frustration.”

Next month’s match will be the second time in three seasons the Edinburgh clubs have met in the semi-final after Hearts beat Hibs 2-1 at the same stage in 2020, in a match played behind closed doors due to Covid.

It is understood that the Edinburgh clubs’ statements came as a surprise to some Hampden officials.

Ticket prices for the semi-finals have to be agreed between all four clubs involved with each of them sharing the same amount of pooled revenue.

The adult prices are the same as the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals, which Hibs have taken part in for three years running.

Hibs earlier announced ticket prices for their fans to go to Tynecastle for the league derby the weekend before the cup tie would cost adults ÂŁ29-31. Hibs charged adult Hearts fans ÂŁ33 for the most recent Easter Road derby.
