Ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson has declared that Donald Trump “will be strong and powerful” in his support of Ukraine and in “defending democracy”. The Conservative ex-premier was in Washington this week to observe the Republican National Conference in Milwaukee, where Mr Trump was anointed the party’s official candidate in the forthcoming US presidential elections.
After a photograph spread showing him giving a lecture to a near-empty room at the conference on Tuesday, Mr Johnson later conveyed an image of himself satisfied with Mr Trump, just days after the ex-president endured an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

In addition to Johnson and Truss, Reform UK head Nigel Farage, who was elected Clacton MP during the UK’s General Election earlier this month, is also due to follow the convention.
Farage is hoped to travel to the US on Wednesday after the King’s Speech in Parliament.
