LONDON (Parliament Politics Magazine) – On the fringes of the One Ocean Summit in the French port city of Brest, President Macron met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
El-Sisi also met with Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, and Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Bouden.
French President Emmanuel Macron said his country is dedicated to enhancing cooperative collaboration with Egypt in a variety of disciplines, as well as supporting efforts of Cairo to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development and fight terrorism and extremism in the region.
Macron praised his country’s excellent ties with Egypt, which have become stronger in recent years as a result of numerous visits by Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to France, the president.
According to Bassam Rady, an Egyptian presidential spokesman, his remarks occurred during a meeting with El-Sisi on the margins of the One Ocean Summit in the French port city of Brest on Friday.
Cairo, according to El-Sisi, is eager to strengthen ties with Paris in a variety of areas, particularly in terms of expertise transfer and the use the technological know-how of France in all sorts of development. He also expressed Egypt’s desire to increase consultation and coordination with France on military, security, economic and political issues, as well as to contribute to the stability and security of the Eastern Mediterranean, the African continent and the Middle East particularly during France’s EU presidency.
According to Rady, the leaders also discussed a variety of regional problems, including developments in Libya, where Mr Macron expressed gratitude to Egypt’s efforts that are led by El-Sisi, to protect Libyan national institutions and encourage a political solution to the country’s situation.
According to the spokesman, they decided to make concerted collaborative efforts to assist the Libyan people in restoring security and stability in their nation, particularly through the departure of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libyan soil and the eradication of terrorism.
Given their respective nations’ significant roles in environmental and climate concerns, Macron and El-Sisi also discussed prospects for cooperation ahead of Egypt’s hosting of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference, COP27, in Sharm El-Sheikh in November, said the spokesperson.
