Hackney (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney, part of the Mossbourne Federation, ranked fifth nationally in The Telegraph’s 2025 list of top non-selective schools.

GCSE results in EBacc courses, such as English, math, science, a language, and either geography or history, are used to determine ranking.

Student attendance, academic breadth, and general achievement are additional aspects taken into account.

Rebecca Warren, principal of Mossbourne Community Academy, said:

“I continue to be proud of, and humbled by, the dedicated and hardworking students and staff of Mossbourne Community Academy.

Five years of commitment to excellence has resulted in this wonderful accolade.”

Only 18 of the hundreds of non-selective state schools in the UK made the top 100.

Mossbourne was among the best in London.

The foundation of the academy’s success is the philosophy of “courtesy, hard work, and excellence.”

The honor also demonstrates the school’s dedication to providing each student with a challenging, comprehensive education.

The Mossbourne Federation includes Mossbourne Community Academy.

Through comprehensive education, the federation hopes to increase Hackney residents’ ambitions.

Its most recent national distinction serves as more evidence that an inclusive, community-based approach can reliably provide excellent academic outcomes.

Just 18 non-selective institutions were ranked in the top 100 by The Telegraph.

Mossbourne’s standing is a reflection of its emphasis on attendance and topic diversity in addition to academic success.

What improvements led to Mossbourne’s recent rise?

The school has established a robust and comprehensive teaching framework with high expectations for students as demonstrated by the leaders role in classrooms reviewing instruction and teachers receiving high quality feedback on instruction. As a result, improvements to exam results and value-added measures of student progress have occurred.

Mossbourne has effectively spent its pupil premium (more than £515,000 in 2023-24) on advancing the attainment and progress of disadvantaged students, contributing to a more level playing field for all students in the school.

The academy’s start to school improvement has been strengthened since it became a member of the Mossbourne Federation through effective and strong central leadership, sharing best practices across schools.  Additionally, the school has received targeted resources dedicated to the school improvement.
