Harrow (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Diamond Cakes in Harrow is giving away free pastries and coffee to support locals in need, launching a heartfelt initiative to help the struggling community.

The bakery offers “coffee in anticipation,” which enables kind patrons to pay in advance for someone else’s drink, and complimentary pastries every morning between 6 and 8 a.m.

“We began offering free items to show kindness and support to our community,”

said Anna, Manager for Diamond Cakes.

“Helping each other is such a beautiful thing and we wanted to raise awareness as well as encourage other businesses to promote kindness to the community.”

The number of pre-paid coffees is shown on a sign outside the store, and there is no official procedure in place; instead, things are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. It is open to anyone in need of one.

“We had very positive feedback from the community so far and this brings us so much joy,”

she added.

Diamond Cakes recently experienced a break-in, but the event just made them more confident in the kindness of the locals.

“The break-in was a very serious and damaging incident that did not benefit either of the parties as we never keep cash or valuables in the bakery. We felt a lot of support from our community after the incident and we appreciate everyone that took out of their time to show kindness.”

As for the message they’d like to share with Harrow residents:

“Always think of others, not only by offering physical items but also kind words.”

Diamond Cakes hopes that their example will encourage others to serve the community with kindness and charity.

How is the Harrow Foodbank supporting those in crisis with free food?

A local organization, such as Citizens Advice, a physician, health visitor, social worker, or police officer, must provide a voucher to those in need. By making this referral, assistance is directed toward individuals who are most in need.

A three-day emergency food parcel, which includes nutritionally balanced, non-perishable items like breakfast cereal, soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, baked beans, canned meat and vegetables, instant mash, UHT milk, tea, coffee, sugar, canned dessert, and biscuits, can be obtained by exchanging the voucher after it has been referred. When fresh produce is available, it is served.

To address other essential requirements, the foodbank also provides cleaning goods, hygiene, baby supplies, and pet food.

Volunteers extend a warm welcome to clients, providing them with helpful advice and a sympathetic ear.
