Harrow (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Harrow’s first cycle parking hub has opened at Lowlands Recreation Ground, offering secure bike storage behind Harrow on the Hill station to boost cycling.

With 40 safe bike parking spots and e-bike charging stations, the new Lowlands Cycle Hub will be open around-the-clock.

The Spokesafe app allows users to reserve spaces for £1 per day, £5 per week, or £10 per month. Cyclists can use the Spokesafe website to express interest right now.

The project, which is a collaboration between Spokesafe and Harrow Council, is to enhance the borough’s bicycle infrastructure.

It comes after other initiatives including the proposed bike path between Harrow and Pinner, which is one of the council’s 2024–2025 Flagship Actions.

Cllr David Ashton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways, said:

“This is great news for Harrow’s cycling community. Not only will it provide safe and secure storage option to those travelling to and from the station, but we hope it will encourage others to cycle and use sustainable travelling options. It’s one of many ways we are putting residents first and I am looking forward to seeing the positive impact this will have.’’

Max Wilson, Spokesafe’s Founder, said:

“We’re delighted to partner with Harrow Council & Falco to open this exciting new facility which should be a boost for everyone who wants to travel sustainably in and around Harrow. We’re looking forward to opening day & to playing our part helping more of the local community cycle more often!”.

How does the partnership with Spokesafe ensure security at the hub?

Access to the hub is only possible via the Spokesafe app, which requires users to complete an ID Verification Check upon signing up. This tech-enabled door system restricts entry exclusively to authorized members, significantly reducing the risk of theft or unauthorized access.

The hubs are fully enclosed and typically include CCTV surveillance (depending on the specific site), providing ongoing security and monitoring.

Spokesafe’s purpose-built management system records every access, allowing detailed tracking and control of who enters the facility and when, improving oversight and accountability. While the hub provides secured space, cyclists are recommended to bring their own locks for added personal security of their bikes.
