Kingston (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Kingston police enforced problem parties within the university district through Saturday by releasing fines as part of their heightened St. Patrick’s Day weekend security efforts.
Police issued a “nuisance party” declaration on Johnson Street at approximately 11:55 a.m., ordering attendees to disperse or face fines. After the order expired, the police distributed four $2,000 fines.
Around 12:05 p.m. authorities declared a nuisance party on Earl Street which led to officers issuing three more $2,000 fines. The implemented order has been officially removed.
What did city officials say about the initiative?
Kyle Compeau, a representative with the City of Kingston, emphasized the importance of public safety in a news release earlier this week.
“Public safety is our number one priority, so while we want people to enjoy themselves, we also want everyone to know the risks of reckless partying, and to take steps to ensure they have a plan to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day responsibly,”
he said.
Compeau added,
“We have been out in the University District neighbourhoods, meeting students and talking about the importance of watching out for one another, respecting neighbours and keeping roadways cleared for emergency vehicles at all times.”
What happens next?
Local law enforcement in Kingston has declared their dedication to sustaining their enforcement of this initiative through the entire St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Team members will disclose the full fine count when the program ends on Tuesday.
Kingston authorities continuously remind both students and residents to drink responsibly while highlighting the risks of dangerous behaviour. On Saturday, authorities handed out $14,000 worth of fines as a clear warning against excessive parties.
The weekend continues with police forces and bylaw officers actively maintaining vigilance because they want celebrations to stay under control.
