How are apprentices like Nylah Achampong advancing careers in Lambeth?
More than 1,000 apprentices in Lambeth are progressing in their careers in a variety of industries in the borough. Nylah Achampong, an 18-year-old from Clapham, shared her experiences on Monday.
Currently a Level Four apprentice in construction, design, and building with the Berkeley Group at the Oval Village development, Nylah attended La Retraite Sixth Form in Clapham Park.
She said:
“The experience has been great, and I feel like I am learning new things every day. I love how hands on this apprenticeship is, and seeing this site project come together has been amazing.
If I pass my Level Four I want to go on and do the Level Six apprenticeship which will be the equivalent to having a degree. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
Local people from Lambeth can apply for apprenticeship opportunities in the borough via be.lambeth.gov.uk/.
Cllr Holland, said:
“I was delighted to join the Sec of State Bridget Phillipson and the Berkeley Group in Lambeth to mark the start of National Apprenticeship week. It was a chance to show off our brilliant apprentices and celebrate their achievements.
Here in Lambeth we have a relentless focus on ensuring our young people can get the best start in life, and we can only achieve that as a council by working with partners across the borough.
Today’s visit to the Berkeley Homes development in Oval is a good example of that.”
How can businesses in Lambeth benefit from National Apprenticeship Week?
At events like the TfL Apprenticeship Fair and the Lambeth Supply Chain and Partners Apprenticeship Fair, businesses can meet possible apprentices. These gatherings offer a chance to network with people looking for apprenticeships in a variety of industries, including transportation, maintenance, and construction.
Apprenticeships enable businesses to cultivate local talent and invest in their workers, particularly in developing industries like the green economy, creative and technology sectors, and health and life sciences.
They can get government assistance to pay for the training and evaluation required for an apprenticeship. With further incentives for recruiting new apprentices, the government may cover 95% of the costs for SMEs.
