One of the legendary rally Subaru Imprezas driven by Colin McRae is for sale.
The history of the famous model from the house of the Pleiades in the world of competitions was written in the 1990s, when rally icons such as McRae took it to the conquest of races and world titles. Now, just one of the cars driven by the famous driver is being offered for auction by Silverstone Auction.
The Subaru Impreza S5 Wrc P2 Wrc is the one that first competed at the 1997 Monte Carlo Rally, driven by McRae and his co-driver Nicky Grist. Subsequently used by a private team, between 1998 and 2000, the Impreza went on a string of victories and earned the Hungarian championship title in 1998 and 1999.
Between 2001 and 2002, the Impreza up for auction today returned to the UK and its current owner used it for a further handful of races, also performing well against much more modern rally cars . The Impreza has also been converted to right hand drive to better compete in rallies in the British Isles.
The engine and gearbox were rebuilt just a few hundred miles ago, and for the past seven years, the car has been prepped and maintained by Ejm Preperations. Despite his age, McRae’s ex has recently made numerous public appearances, including the victorious one at the Wethersfield Stages Rally in 2016 and 2017.
The auction is scheduled for February 25th at Stoneleigh Park. The estimated sales figure is between 340,000 and 380,000 pounds.
