Lewisham (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A man has died following a serious DLR incident at Station Road, Lewisham, near the junction with Lewisham High Street shortly after 8:15am on June 15.

The individual was declared dead at the scene despite the presence of officers and the London Ambulance Service.

His passing is being handled as an unforeseen event.

A cordon is in place and Station Road is still closed as officers determine all the details.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said:

“Police were called at 8.13am on Sunday, 15 June to reports of a male injured after falling from a height in Station Road, SE13.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended.  The male was sadly pronounced dead at the scene at 08:17 His death is being treated as unexpected. Station Road remains closed and a cordon is in place as officers establish the full circumstances.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said:

“We were called at 8.09am today (15 June) to reports of a person who had fallen from height at Lewisham DLR Station, in Junction Approach.

We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene. The first paramedic arrived in less than five minutes. Sadly the patient died at the scene.”

What safety measures are in place following recent incidents at Lewisham?

In order to prevent uncontrolled evacuations and guarantee passenger welfare, Southeastern and Network Rail pledged to improve decision-making in challenging circumstances, enhance passenger communication, and update emergency protocols following a 2018 report on a significant disruption at Lewisham involving stranded trains.

Preventing weather-related disruptions that could jeopardize safety is the goal of initiatives like ice-breaker shoe testing on trains and anti-icing treatments on conductor rails.

In order to lower risks during unanticipated situations, Lewisham Council encourages citizens to have plans and emergency supplies on hand by educating the public about emergency preparations.
