UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A major UK supermarket is offering free fruit for children in more than 800 stores from tomorrow, aiming to promote healthier eating habits.

In an effort to encourage healthy eating, more than 800 full-sized shop locations will participate in the campaign for two weeks, from December 30 to January 13.

Additionally, 119 retailers will use their Click and Collect program to give away the free fruit.

Although Tesco has done this in the past, they feel it is now more crucial than ever to revive the Free Fruit for Kids program in order to encourage the country to eat more of its five-a-day.

According to government data from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey (June 2025), less than one in five persons in the UK are able to eat enough fruit and vegetables.

Only around one in ten children meet their daily nutritional needs, and this number falls even further for children and those from low-income families.

“We’re committed to making healthy choices easier, quicker, and better value for our customers,”

says Ashwin Prasad, UK CEO of Tesco, regarding the initiative that is anticipated to distribute over 3 million apples.

Customers can pick up some fruit when they pick up their Click and Collect purchase, or they can find crates of free fruit next to Tesco store checkouts.

However, Tesco’s broader healthy food push as consumers approach the New Year includes more than simply the complimentary fruit.

Here are some other methods to take advantage of Tesco’s fruit and vegetable sales from now till January:

Select consumers will be able to earn Clubcard points through Clubcard Challenges starting on January 12, 2026, by purchasing frozen and fresh fruit and vegetables, beans and pulses, canned fruit and vegetables, and dried fruit.

In addition to weekly Fresh 5 deals on five-a-day essentials, new Clubcard prices and promotions will be offered on fruit and vegetables.

Inspirational five-a-day recipes will also be featured in a six-page spread in the January issue of Tesco Magazine. Healthy food content will also be shared on Tesco channels’ social media pages, highlighting the benefits of getting your five-a-day.

Are Click and Collect customers eligible for the giveaway?

Yes, Click and Collect visitors at Tesco’s 119 larger stores are eligible for the free apple comp for kids, starting December 30, 2025.

Families collecting orders can request one free British- overgrown apple per child at designated collection points, aligning with the in- store checkout program across 800 locales to promote healthy eating over two weeks.

The action distributes over three million apples without purchase conditions, extending to this service to reach further parents amid low fruit consumption rates among UK children.
