Lambeth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – The newly refurbished playground at Milkwood Community Park has officially opened, providing a safe and welcoming space for families and children in Lambeth.

Scholars from Jessop Primary School who are local to the area, Lambeth Council, and Friends of Milkwood Community Park members came to the special opening and  strip cutting event.

The children in the academy’s council participated in a lovely story about how outdoor  play spaces are essential for children and that the playground is part of their daily lives.

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Leisure, and Sports, said:

We were delighted to open this new playground in partnership with the community and it’s great to see it being so well used already.

Lambeth is proud of its network of parks and green spaces and we’re doing everything we can to invest in them for the good of the whole community.”

Before cutting the strip to formally advertise the refashioned playground open, Maude Estwick, the demesne’s memorial patron, told guests of a visit she had with Prince Charles, who’s now King Charles III, when the demesne first opened.

After the ceremony, kids had a fun time playing and exploring the new  installations. Kompan, the firm that constructed the playground, then kindly gave them healthy goodie bags.

The £50,000 renovation project, which was financed by developer contributions under Section 106, shows how community infrastructure levies may directly help locals and produce long-lasting enhancements to neighborhood facilities.

Now accessible to the general public, the renovated playground is a major investment in the outdoor leisure, health, and well-being of families in Herne Hill.

What accessible equipment was installed for children with disabilities?

The  recently refurbished playground at Milkwood Community Park in Lambeth includes an accessible  outfit designed for children with disabilities.

A roundabout that is accessible to children with limited mobility, allowing them to enjoy spinning conditioning safely. A cradle swing designed to  give  redundant support and safety for children with physical disabilities. Outfit layouts and  shells that are inclusive and wheelchair-friendly, promoting access and play for children with a range of mobility impairments.

These additions help  ensure that children with disabilities can partake completely and safely in playground  exertion, fostering inclusive play and social commerce. The advancements reflect a commitment to creating an accessible and welcoming space for all children.
