DOHA (Parliament Politics Magazine) – According to the Global Sustainability Assessment System, the FIFA World Cup venue Stadium 974 received a five-star rating, reported the Qatar News Agency.
The venue has a capacity of 40,000-capacity. Prefabricated and modular steel components, which cut down on waste production and building time were used for its construction.
The football stadium’s water use was reduced by 40% compared to a traditional stadium development thanks to efficiency technologies.
Stadium 974 was given both a category A* construction management grade and a five-star GSAS design and build classification under the rating system, which was overseen by the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development.
At a special event on Monday, executives from the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), which has been in charge of overseeing Qatar 2022 preparations, were given rating certificates. Ghanim Al-Kuwari, the deputy director general, sustainability executive director Bodour Al-Meer, facilities management director Mohamed Al-Atwaan, and the manager for sustainability communications, Jassim Al-Jaidah were among those present at the committee meeting.
Sustainability has been the main focus of Stadium 974, according to Al-Kuwari. Receiving top GSAS certification marks from GORD is more evidence of their efforts to build innovative, environmentally friendly ideas for stadium design and construction that they hoped would be followed by other countries.
He further added, Stadium 974 was a proud illustration of the legacy they wished to leave from Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup.
974 establishes new norms for the design and use of sustainable venues as the first FIFA-compliant stadium that can be completely dismantled and repurposed after an event.
By getting such excellent ratings, their efforts in making Stadium 974 a reality were genuinely rewarding for everyone who was involved in that special project from the beginning, Al-Meer said.
For the FIFA World Cup and beyond, Stadium 974 would always be synonymous with their sustainability goals, he added.
They were thankful to all of their stakeholders and contractors, including the stadium management staff, for helping them build Stadium 974 into a proud symbol of their sustainable goals, stated Al-Jaidah. That award served as a significant acknowledgement of their efforts to host a FIFA World Cup that was carbon neutral.
It was a great achievement for everyone who had worked on the project and made it a reality, Al-Atwaan said. When Stadium 974 hosts games during Qatar 2022, they look forward to hosting soccer fans from all over the world.
Dr. Yousef Alhorr, the founding chairman of GORD, stated the Stadium 974 had proven itself to be a great achievement in sustainable design and construction by meeting top GSAS requirements.
They congratulated the SC for transforming the idea of constructing a totally demountable stadium into a remarkable example of green building practice.
According to FIFA standards, achieving four stars was considered acceptable, but the SC went above and beyond to obtain a five-star rating for the most World Cup stadiums, he added.
Seven games will be held at Stadium 974, starting on November 22 when Mexico takes on Poland.
The eight venues used for World Cup matches have all received at least a four-star grade from GSAS.
