Richmond upon Thames (Parliament politics Magazine) – Starting July 7, 2025, Richmond Thames Water begins £2.1M work on Upper Sunbury Road (ref BB 00718190), closing westbound lanes; 216 bus to Staines rerouted; call 0800 316 9800.
As Richmond news reported, starting July 7, 2025, Richmond Thames Water will begin major work on Upper Sunbury Road. This project is scheduled to continue through the end of October 2025. They mentioned that the goal is to upgrade the local water system. This will ensure reliable water service for people and businesses in the area. To do this work, there will be a road closure on Upper Sunbury Road.
Traffic will be impacted when travelling west from the Percy Road junction to directly across from Hampton Care Home. Eastbound traffic is not impacted and will use that route as usual. Traffic heading west will be required to take the signed detour routes. This temporary traffic change is necessary to allow the work crews to operate safely.
How will Thames Water’s £2.1M Upper Sunbury road works affect people?
According to the officials, the work on Upper Sunbury Road will cause some noise and disruption. Thames Water knows this and will try to keep the impact small. People who live or work in the closed area can still get to their homes and businesses.
Emergency vehicles will always have access. They mentioned that residents should plan their trips, expect delays, and check for updates. Although there will be some disruption, the work will improve the water system.
Richmond Thames Water is starting a £2.1 million safety project on Upper Sunbury Road on July 7, 2025. They will put up 180 meters of barriers near the Hampton Grand Junction Reservoir. This is to stop cars or things from falling into the reservoir if there’s an accident.
Upper Sunbury Road will be closed for westbound traffic from Percy Road to near Hampton Care Home. Eastbound traffic can still use the road. Drivers going west will need to take detour signs. People with addresses or living, working, or needing emergency services will always have a way through.
During the roadwork, for the most part, buses will be running. The 111 bus won’t change its route. The 216 bus going to Kingston will also stick to its usual path. That said, Route 216 to Staines will be on a different temporary route. It will continue from Percy Road to Upper Sunbury Road, then to Lower Sunbury Road, and then to Lower Hampton Road – and finally resume its normal route.
A temporary bus stop will be located on Lower Hampton Road close to Harfield Road. If people have any queries, please contact Thames Water on 0800 316 9800 quoting reference BB 00718190. They can also sign up to receive updates for roadworks taking place in Richmond upon Thames.
