Wandsworth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Wandsworth Council leader Simon Hogg held a community drop-in where Roehampton residents shared local concerns and ideas on housing, safety and services.
The Leader was questioned by locals on a number of topics, including recycling, bin collections, and the Alton estate’s future.
Simon Hogg discussed the Wandsworth Council‘s initiatives in these areas, such as our Cleaner Borough Plan, which ensures free weekly garbage collection, and how 5,000 tonnes of waste have been recycled with plans to recycle much more.
He also provided information about the Council’s collaboration with the Metropolitan Police to establish a more responsive and visible local policing presence through the recently opened Roehampton Community Safety Touchdown Space on Danebury Avenue.
Simon Hogg said:
“We know how much safer the neighbourhood is, the new touchdown space has been opened and the police now have a base to spend more time in the local area.”
In addition, he talked about the Alton Renewal Plan, which aims to increase estate manager investment, revitalize estates, and construct new homes.
The Roehampton Sport and Fitness Centre hosted the event, which was the most recent in a series of monthly community drop-ins that took place throughout the borough.
Residents are encouraged to offer ideas for neighborhood enhancements, learn more about Council services and goals for their community, have direct conversations about key issues, and get support and guidance.
Over hot coffee and refreshments, you might be able to speak with the Council Leader, your Ward Councillors, your local MP, and representatives from Citizens Advice, Community Safety, and other services.
All of this is a part of our dedication to being a listening council that is open, contemporary, and serving your interests.
This includes our new 7 rings, 7 days promise, which states that a staff member will answer calls to the council’s dedicated 0208 871 6000 line within 7 rings. Residents can also contact the city via a new email address, hello@wandsworth.gov.uk.
To further ensure that everyone can take pride in their neighborhood, any graffiti, damaged street signs, or dangerous potholes reported by locals will be remedied within seven days.
This year, the community drop-in activities are still happening every month throughout the borough. Locate your next local visit.
If you are unable to attend in person, you can email your thoughts to heretolisten@wandsworth.gov.uk or submit a question in advance.
If you have any additional questions concerning council services, please email hello@wandsworth.gov.uk or give 020 8871 6000 a call. A staff person will respond within seven rings.
