Sutton (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Sutton Council announces new disabled parking bays and alterations to existing spaces across the borough to improve accessibility for residents.
As reported by Your Local Guardian, in an effort to improve accessibility for drivers with disabilities, Sutton Council has suggested amending the parking laws.
A number of areas, including Wallington, Sutton, Carshalton, and Beddington, where additional handicapped parking spots will be erected, would be affected by the revisions.
According to the council, these modifications will make it easier for drivers with disabilities to access locations with high parking demand.
Among the suggested modifications are:
The new disability bays are 6.6 meters long and can be used whenever a blue badge is worn.
- Wallington, next to 90 Brabazon Avenue
- Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., outside 24–26 Beauchamp Road, Sutton (replacing a permit holder bay)
- 4 wheels on pavement outside 349 Middleton Road, Carshalton (replacing an uncontrolled footway bay)
- Outside Wallington’s 18 The Chase
- On Richmond Road, next to 2 Wandle Road, Beddington (instead of a 2-wheels-on-footway bay)
For blue badge holders at any time, a new bay measuring 4.2 m by 3.6 m has been created.
Disabled bays outside 10 Freshwood Way, Wallington, will be taken out:
- Mon–Sat, 8am–6.30pm, outside 5 Benhill Road, Sutton (will revert to a permit holder bay)
- Outside 37–43 Fryston Avenue, Coulsdon
- Outside 417 Green Wrythe Lane, Carshalton (four wheels on the sidewalk, uncontrolled parking will resume)
- Outside Carshalton’s 90 Westminster Road
The council has released a statement outlining the rationale behind the suggested modifications as well as preliminary map schedules that illustrate the locations and consequences of the revisions.
The suggestions are open for public feedback until May 29, 2025.
