The UK to deliver 6,000 defence missiles to Ukraine

LONDON (Parliament Politics Magazine) – PM Johnson is expected to propose a new military aid package for Ukraine on Thursday, as he meets with G7 AND NATO leaders to encourage them to “stand up” in the face of Russian aggression.

The PM will pledge 6,000 new defensive missiles and £25 million in financial support for military personnel of Ukraine, calling on the UK’s partners to guarantee Ukrainians have the means to continue to defend themselves against the Russian President’s forces.

The measures will more than treble the amount of lethal defence aid delivered to far, on top of the £400 million the UK has already pledged in humanitarian and economic relief to the situation, according to the government.

G7 and NATO leaders will meet tomorrow in Brussels for discussing longer-term diplomatic, humanitarian and military support for Ukraine, as well as how they plan to tighten anti-Russian measures.

The PM will call on world leaders to maintain a united front.

Mr Johnson is expected to urge the international community to maintain its united stance on Ukraine and collaborative action on economic, military, and diplomatic measures one month into the crisis.

He is also expected to call on the UK’s allies to step up their response to Russia’s increasingly ruthless tactics, particularly by ratcheting up economic sanctions against the Russian government.

The PM will say, “Vladimir Putin is already failing Ukraine.”

In the face of an unjustified attack, the Ukrainian people have demonstrated extraordinary bravery and tenacity in defending their motherland.

But they couldn’t and won’t watch as Russia grinds Ukraine’s towns and cities to dust. The UK will work with its friends to increase military and economic aid to Ukraine, bolstering their defences as they try to turn the tide in this conflict, he added.

After a month of this turmoil, the world community must make a decision. They can either keep the candle of freedom burning in Ukraine or risk having it extinguished across Europe and the rest of the world, he continued.

The £25 million in fresh funds will go toward paying the salaries of Ukrainian troops, pilots, and police officers, as well as ensuring that the armed services have high-quality equipment.
