London (Parliament Politics Magazine) –  A deadly fire in northwest London killed a woman and three boys; a man was detained at the scene as investigations continue.

As reported by The Independent, police detained a man following a tragic blaze that claimed the lives of a woman and three boys, aged 15, 8, and 4.

In the early morning, a fire tore through a northwest London house, prompting a joint response from the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade.

Brent house fire incident 

Police confirmed the deaths of a 43-year-old woman and three children in the fire at Tillett Close, Stonebridge. Their families have been notified.

Using breathing gear, firefighters pulled a woman and a child from the second floor, though both were declared dead at the scene. Inside the building, rescuers found two more children.

London Fire Brigade began receiving emergency calls about the fire at 1.13am. Crews brought the situation under control by 3.24am. 

Fire crews, including eight engines and 70 firefighters, responded to a blaze that heavily damaged two three-story terraced houses.

Four others escaped the fire before firefighters arrived. They were assessed by paramedics, and two were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 41-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody in connection with the incident.

Keeley Foster’s views on the tragic London fire

LFB’s assistant commissioner Keeley Foster stated,

“This is an extremely tragic incident, and the thoughts of everyone across the Brigade are with those impacted by this incident.”

She said,

“Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a well-developed fire, involving two adjoining properties. Crews immediately set to work carrying out firefighting operations in order to bring the incident under control.”

Ms Foster stated,

“Sadly, a woman and three children have died as a result of this fire. Crews wearing breathing apparatus were able to rescue the woman and one of the children from the second floor, but they were later declared deceased at the scene. A further two children were discovered to have died in the fire, as crews carried out a search of the properties involved.”

She added,

“Our specialist Fire Investigation Unit is working closely with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service to now determine the cause of this fire. We are working closely with our partners to support the community at this very sad time.”

Dawn Butler’s stance on the fatal Brent fire

The local MP for Brent East, Dawn Butler, said she was “devastated” by the deadly fire in her constituency.

She stated,

“My prayers are with the family and friends affected by this is a very sad tragedy,”

adding,

“LFB-Brent worked hard to get it under control, thank you.”

Steve Allen’s views on the north-west London fire investigation

Superintendent Steve Allen, from the Met’s local policing team in north-west London, stated,

“This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are with everyone involved.”

He added,

“Officers arrested a man at the scene and we continue to work alongside investigators from the London Fire Brigade to establish the cause of the fire. Emergency services will remain in Tillett Close throughout the day as these enquiries take place.”
