USA (Parliament Politics Magazine) – President Trump launches Freedom 250, a nonpartisan initiative to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, promising the “most spectacular birthday party.”
The organization’s goal is to
“showcase America at its best, courageous, generous, innovative, beautiful, and free by mobilizing partners and communities in all 50 states and around the world,”
according to a recent statement. To organize and carry out the events across the country, it will collaborate with the America 250 Task Force, government agencies, and the America 250 Commission.
The Washington Monument will be illuminated from December 31 to January 5 to commemorate
“the start of this once-in-a-generation anniversary year,”
according to the website.
In a video message on Thursday morning, Trump praised the project, saying that Americans will “never see anything like it, and you’ll never see anything like it again.”
After ringing in 2026 with the lighting of the Washington Monument, Trump said,
“from June 25 to July 10 of next year, we will host the great American state fair on the National Mall, featuring pavilions from all 50 states, highlighting breathtaking innovations and celebrating America’s exceptional history and culture.”
One of the events on the schedule is the inaugural “Patriot Games,” a four-day sporting competition “featuring the greatest high school athletes, one young man and one young woman from each state and territory.” The games will take place in the fall, Trump continued.
“But I promise there will be no men playing in women’s sports. You’re not going to see that,”
he remarked.
Trump announced that a significant prayer ceremony would take place on the National Mall in the spring to “rededicate our country as one nation under God,” and that the White House will host a “one-of-a-kind UFC event” on Flag Day featuring the “greatest champion fighters in the world.”
Freedom 250’s website, “Celebrating the Triumph of the American Spirit,” features a part showcasing America’s beauty, inventiveness, and prayer along with toolkits for communities to commemorate the milestone.
The Official Commemorative Ornament of America’s 250th Anniversary Celebration was introduced by America250, a bipartisan group established by Congress in collaboration with the White House Historical Association.
