Redbridge (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Waltham Forest and Redbridge will receive over £450,000 in government funding aimed at helping vulnerable residents move out of homelessness this year.

On October 10, World Homelessness Day, the funding was disclosed.

In an effort to improve assistance for families living in temporary housing and increase recovery services for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming so, Waltham Forest Council is scheduled to receive £207,920.

Redbridge Council is going to get £252,431.

Its purpose is to enhance support systems for families, including access to welfare rights advice, budgeting support, and personalized support for households at risk of homelessness, in order to stay housed safely.

The funding will be utilized to support wider place-based strategies that provide a wider partnership approach between councils, voluntary services and community groups to reduce homelessness.

Funded programs may support mental health services, domestic violence support, and practical assistance for people moving from temporary accommodation.

The increase, according to the government, is a part of a larger national package worth £84 million that would help councils in England reduce homelessness, lessen rough sleeping, and improve results for vulnerable households.

What specific programs will be introduced using this homelessness funding?

Programs that offer guidance, help, and mediation to individuals and families at risk of losing their homes, aimed at preventing homelessness before it occurs.

Increased provision of temporary housing options for individuals who become homeless, including targeted engagement to provide safe and stable housing placements.

Services that link housing with ongoing case management, health, and social services, particularly for individuals with complex needs due to mental health or substance use concerns.

Targeted interventions for families with children, including providing support for budgeting, accessing benefits, and lessening parental conflict, to help stabilize family environments.
