Why should you visit Italy? It is the country of good food, charming villages and cool cities. And luckily that is very easily accessible for all of us. What are the most beautiful places in Italy that you must see at least once? We have collected them for you!
It is not for nothing that Italy is one of the favourite holiday destinations of all time. There is so much to discover there. Not only the Italian mainland, but also the islands are great. Tuscany is very popular, as is the region around Lake Garda. Then there is Rome. The capital city with a rich powerful history with endless stories and so much more. Italy is full of surprises, and you don’t want to miss these beautiful places.
1. Venice
Venice is one of the most special cities in the world. In fact, this is a series of small islands with a lot of water in between. Cruise through the narrow streets and cross dozens of arched bridges. Whether you love this city or not, it is one of the most beautiful places in Italy that you must see.
However, it can get quite busy in Venice as a city with this appeal is loved all over the world. St. Mark’s Square, the Rialto Bridge, a gondola ride through Venice: everyone wants to do this once. You would do well to avoid the summer months.
2. Florence
Florence is arguably the most charming city in Italy. It is the art capital of Europe. A city where there is much to do and see, but where you don’t necessarily have to do anything at the same time. Renting a scooter, cruising around and eating ice cream: you can get through Florence without any problems for a few days. You can enjoy yourself for hours in the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo and Basilica di Santa Croce . Giardino di Boboli is the best place to relax. Be sure to visit Piazzale Michelangelo, where you have a perfect view of the city. Enjoyment comes naturally in a city like Florence.
3. Pisa
Pisa is famous for the Leaning Tower. Although the Leaning Tower of Pisa is only about four metres from the vertical, it seems to be much taller when you stand straight in front of it. Not only is it the only leaning tower in the world, but also the most beautiful and famous.Â
The good thing about Pisa is that you can just wander around, away from the tower. There you will find, in the charming streets and squares the true essence of Italy.
4. Bologna
Bologna is less known than cities like Florence and Rome, but that is why it is so great. That way there is still much to discover for yourself. Bologna is a gorgeous city to see, with beautiful old buildings and the typical Italian flair. It is the pearl of the province of Emilia-Romagna. When you climb the steep Asinelli tower, you can see the stunning view of Bologna and the green surroundings.Â
Things to definitely do in Bologna: the walk to Basilica San Luca . You walk under countless portici (arches) for which the city is known. The end point is not only a beautiful church, but above all a magnificent view of the area.
5. Sicily
Sicily is a fantastic holiday destination. This island has beaches that you would expect on a bounty island. Beautiful villages, the Etna volcano and the phenomenal views together are all the reasons to go on a holiday to Sicily.
6. Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is named after the town of Amalfi. It is the most beautiful stretch of coast Italy has to offer, which lies just south of Naples. On the Amalfi Coast is also the village of Positano that would deserve its own place in this list.
Although the Amalfi Coast is not that long at all (roughly about 50 kilometres), it is mainly the winding road along the water that makes this place so attractive. Villages seem to be glued to the rocks and the sea views are incredibly beautiful. Call the Amalfi Drive SS163 a dream road. If you want to make a nice road trip through Italy, this is the right place to do it.
7. Capri
Capri is among the most stunning islands in Italy. A small and relatively unknown island is the perfect place to getaway for a few days. It is a jet-set island, so it is a bit chic, but if you wish to laze in a beautiful place you should definitely go to Capri.Â
Things to definitely do: take a boat trip around the island.
