UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn blasts Sir Keir Starmer’s government for targeting the poor and austerity, while launching his new left-wing party.

As reported by The Independent, ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn criticised Sir Keir Starmer to rally support for his new political party.

Jeremy Corbyn’s views on Keir Starmer’s policies

Jeremy Corbyn slammed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s economic policies, accusing him of “balancing the books off the backs of the poor.”

He said the government “inflicts suffering at home and enables genocide abroad,” pointing at Mr Starmer’s Israel-Palestine policy.

Mr Corbyn used the launch of “Your Party” to aggressively attack Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer’s handling of Middle East issues and domestic welfare, fueling unrest in Labour.

The independent MP, after being expelled from Labour, warned that

“over the past year, the government has continued a programme of austerity and privatisation. It has refused to lift the 2-child benefit cap, the single biggest driver of child poverty. It has tried to take away the winter fuel allowance.”

He stated,

“It has increased the bus fare cap. And it has tried to take away £5 billion from disabled people, curating a two-tiered benefit system that deprives thousands of people a dignified life.

Mr Corbyn criticised the government for allocating billions more to defence.

He said,

“Imagine how much better ordinary people’s lives would be if we spent that money on schools, hospitals and green energy instead.”

Mr Corbyn warned that Britain’s major parties were “stagnant” and “not prepared to address the root cause of our society’s ills.”

He argues,

“People have had enough of a government that inflicts suffering at home and enables genocide abroad. Having spent a year trying to balance the books off the backs of the poor, Labour is reaping what it has sown.”

Mr Corbyn’s new party, ahead of its November conference, pledges

“to sow the seeds of something different – something new. We are here to take on the rich and powerful. We are here to offer hope in a more equal, sustainable and peaceful world.”

He declared that the launch of his new party was “just the beginning,” adding,

“Make no mistake. We are going to mobilise everywhere to ensure our movement is rooted in social movements, trade unions and communities up and down the country.”

The former Labour leader said,

“We will support workers on the picket line for the same reason we will support private renters, students and all those who are being denied the resources they need to thrive: we believe that everyone deserves to live in dignity.”

Mr Corbyn added,

“We are not going to scapegoat refugees for the ills of society. Instead, we will focus our attention on the real cause: a grotesquely unequal society that concentrates wealth in the hands of the few. For too long, people have been denied a real political choice. Not anymore.”

Jeremy Corbyn’s stance on Lord Mandelson’s appointment and sacking

Jeremy Corbyn slammed Prime Minister Keir Starmer over Lord Mandelson’s sacking

He said he believes it was

“slightly odd that prior to the appointment of Lord Mandelson, there was obviously not sufficient due diligence done.”

Mr Corbyn added,

“On the day before he was dismissed, apparently there were a lot of emails available to the Prime Minister which he either wasn’t given or didn’t read. So we find this odd situation where the British ambassador to the USA has to be dismissed in full bear of international publicity.”

Why is Sir Keir Starmer facing pressure over the Lord Mandelson scandal?

Keir Starmer faces mounting criticism from MPs over his handling of Mandelson’s resignation.

The Conservative Party has triggered a parliamentary debate over the appointment and sacking of the Labour peer as US envoy.

Lord Mandelson was sacked after Bloomberg emails revealed he encouraged Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted child sex offender, to seek early release from prison.

Kemi Badenoch’s views on Keir Starmer and Mandelson’s appointment

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch claims Sir Keir Starmer and his chief of staff pushed through Lord Mandelson’s appointment.

She told the Commons, “This was an appointment apparently forced through by the Prime Minister and Morgan McSweeney, his chief of staff.”

Ms Badenoch stated,

“We see a political ally pushed ahead of qualified candidates because the Prime Minister and Morgan Sweeney admired his talent for mixing with the rich and powerful, despite his known links to a man who was publicly known as a convicted paedophile and a convicted sex trafficker.”

She slammed Sir Keir Starmer for using “lawyerly phrases” to dodge questions on Lord Mandelson’s appointment and sacking.

Ms Badenoch stated,

“It is now also clear that the Prime Minister knew that there were major concerns when he came to this House just last Wednesday, but instead of taking action, he expressed confidence in him.  Why on earth did he do so? Was he poorly advised, or was it just his own poor judgment as in every single one of his government scandals to date?”

The Tory leader said,

“He needs to come out of hiding. This issue will not go away. Mr. Speaker, the Government cannot play for time,”

Adding,

“We will be back here again and again until all of these documents are published. We will be back until someone takes responsibility. This is a political crisis on top of an economic crisis all of the Government’s own making.”

What did Ed Davey say about Keir Starmer and Epstein victims over Mandelson?

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey urged Keir Starmer to apologise to Jeffrey Epstein’s victims over Lord Mandelson’s appointment, questioning how they felt about Donald Trump as US president.

Mr Davey said his boycott of the Trump state banquet meant he could not raise the matter with the US president.

He added that Mr Starmer should directly ask Trump about his relationship with Epstein.

What did Keir Starmer say about quitting over the Lord Mandelson scandal?

Sir Keir Starmer refuses to quit amid the Lord Mandelson controversy, saying his staff failed to inform him about the peer’s emails with Jeffrey Epstein.

The Prime Minister confirmed he knew of emails between Lord Mandelson and the convicted paedophile while publicly defending the former US ambassador in Parliament last week.
