Wandsworth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Putney Leisure Centre invites Wandsworth families to the launch of its soft play area for under-fives on 5 December, marking a boost to toddler facilities.

Festive fun, free activities, and a friendly area for kids to play, learn, and explore are all part of the day’s plans.

The new soft play area was designed to give kids under five a secure, stimulating, and welcoming environment that promotes joy, creativity, and mobility. It’s the ideal spot for toddlers to climb, crawl, and explore because it has many sensory stations and creative play areas.

A permanent soft play area for children under five is scheduled for summer 2026, and families are invited to provide input to help define the final design. This temporary installation is only the start.

The project is a component of Wandsworth Council’s £24 million investment to upgrade the borough’s recreational facilities. Additionally, it promotes Wandsworth’s Year of Play and Wandsworth Moves Together initiative, both of which seek to facilitate locals’ ability to maintain an active lifestyle and get the rewards of doing so.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

“We’ve listened to residents who asked for more play opportunities in Putney, and this new soft play area is one part of our answer.

Play and movement have never been more important for children’s development. We’re proud to deliver this for local families and by offering free access for Access for All members, we’re ensuring that play remains open, inclusive, and welcoming to every family.”

The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Come celebrate with us after the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will be followed by a fun-filled morning that includes:

  • Free soft play sessions (reservations required)
  • Mrs. Claus made a special guest visit.
  • Festive activities and face painting
  • The Bouncy Castle
  • Coloring contests
  • Free refreshments

Unless you want to reserve a time slot for one of the free soft play sessions, which will run from 12 noon to 6 p.m., there is no need to make a reservation.

As part of their dedication to ensuring that play is accessible to all, Access for All members can always take advantage of free sessions.

Are there session capacity limits and online booking links?

The soft play sessions at Putney Leisure Centre’s launch event on 5 December have capacity limits, and bookings must be made online in advance. While specific session capacity figures are n’t detailed, similar events generally use reserving platforms that circumscribe the number of attendees per time niche to ensure safety and a quality experience.

Families interested in attending the free soft play sessions can speak through the sanctioned Places rest website or Wandsworth Council’s booking gate, where available session places and capacities are managed to avoid overcrowding.

It’s judicious to book beforehand to secure a place due to limited spaces and anticipated high demand for the event.
