Waltham Forest (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Waltham Forest residents living with Parkinson’s are invited to free chair-based yoga sessions designed to support wellbeing, and community health.

People with Parkinson’s complaint and other movement diseases in Waltham Forest and the girding areas of East London are welcome to attend a new president- grounded yoga session aimed at encouraging further people to get active in an affable, probative, and accessible setting.

The free forums will be held weekly on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Winchester Road Methodist Church, 82 Winchester Road, Chingford.

These president- grounded yoga classes, which are completely funded by Parkinson’s UK Physical Activity Grant and delivered by Yanar Alkayat, a largely educated CNHC- registered yoga therapist and author of Yanar Mind & Movement, are designed for people of all periods, capacities, mobility situations, and stages of the condition; no previous yoga experience is needed.

The programs are also appropriate for wheelchair users and moderate enough for individuals who use walking and mobility devices. Relatives and caregivers are welcome to attend, meet others, and enjoy moving together.

Yanar has a particular connection to Parkinson’s complaint, as her mama was diagnosed with it over 15 years ago. As a result, Yanar decided to devote her yoga experience to helping persons with Parkinson’s complaint, fastening on gentle president- grounded movement and relaxation ways to help control symptoms and ameliorate everyday mobility and wellbeing.

People with Parkinson’s complaint and other neurological conditions have been shown to profit from yoga in terms of both physical and internal good. These may include decreased stiffness, improved/increased mobility, and greater muscular strength and joint health.

Yanar says:

The benefits of yoga postures, adapted for the chair, extend beyond improving mobility, posture and balance – they also lift the mood and support the nervous system, which is especially important when managing a health condition.

Classes are always gentle and accessible to mobilise joints and stretch muscles. Breath awareness and relaxation practices such as Yoga Nidra – a guided practice to release physical and mental tension – help manage stress and enhance emotional wellbeing, leaving participants feeling energised and relaxed. I’m excited that this new class will bring mindful movement to even more people who need it.”

What are the eligibility criteria for Parkinson’s chair yoga classes?
