Hounslow (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Hounslow Council celebrates receiving 20 Green Flag Awards for its parks and green spaces, recognizing high environmental standards and community value.

After receiving an international quality mark for parks and green spaces, green areas like Brentford’s Watermans Park and Chiswick Old Cemetery are awarded the coveted Green Flag Award.

Following the borough’s 20 Green Flag Awards, Hounslow Council is celebrating today.

Hounslow’s 20 locations, which range from Pevensey Nature Reserve in Hanworth to Watermans Park in Brentford, represent 2,250 locations in the UK to receive the designation, which is the global quality mark for parks and green areas.

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said:

“Congratulations to everyone involved at Hounslow Council and Lampton GreenSpace who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.

Crucially, Hounslow’s green spaces are vital for communities to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”

Well-managed parks and green spaces are recognized and rewarded through the Green Flag Award scheme, which is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under license from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. It sets the standard for green space management in the UK and globally.

Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces at Hounslow Council, said:

“A huge congratulations to our friends groups, volunteers, parks team, and Lampton GreenSpace for securing these coveted accolades. As a Council, we remain committed to enhancing our green spaces and delivering for our residents.”

Hounslow Council received 20 Green Flag Awards in 2025. Their awarded sites include a mix of parks, nature reserves, cemeteries, and allotments such as Watermans Park, Chiswick Old Cemetery, Pevensey Road Nature Reserve, Feltham Green, and Hounslow Heath.

Richmond Council holds 21 Green Flag Awards, including a new award for East Sheen Common in 2024/25. Richmond’s awarded parks include Buccleuch Gardens, Cambridge Gardens, Crane Park (jointly with Hounslow), Garrick’s Lawn, Ham Village Green, Kew Green, Richmond Green, Twickenham Green, and York House Gardens, among others.

Hounslow’s awarded sites focus more on a broad range of community-accessible parks, nature reserves, allotments, and recreational spaces supporting diverse local neighbourhoods.
