Lambeth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Lambeth Council unveils refurbished playgrounds at Max Roach Park and Norwood Park, offering upgraded facilities for families and children across Lambeth.

Max Roach Park’s £39,990 investment guarantees that younger kids have access to happy, engaging, and secure play activities right in the middle of their neighborhood.

Three brand-new pieces of equipment for kids ages four to seven have been added to the playground, which has received a complete renovation:

  • A multipurpose climber
  • A framework for hopping and climbing
  • A fresh set of swings

Significant renovations have also been made to Norwood Park. The main draw for children aged seven to twelve is a new multipurpose play structure. Additionally, the beloved hammock swing has been replaced and the current equipment has been renovated.

In order to ensure that the playground continues to serve the requirements of the families who use it the most, the £62,348 project was developed by input from the local community, particularly Friends of Norwood Park in Lambeth.

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities said:

“These upgrades at Max Roach Park and Norwood Park show our continued commitment to investing in high-quality play spaces for every child in Lambeth.

Playgrounds are where imaginations grow, friendships are made, and families come together. I’m pleased that thanks to community input and council investment, children now have brighter, safer and more exciting places to enjoy.”

The renovations are a part of Lambeth Council’s larger plan to update and enhance parks and green areas around the borough so that they continue to be hospitable, accessible, and lively for all locals.

What safety features were added in the Max Roach refurbishment?

The refurbishment of Max Roach Park’s playground in Brixton prioritized child safety through ultramodern, biddable play equipment designed for periods four to seven, including amulti-use rambler, hop and climb structure, and new swings.

Equipment meets current UK play safety norms (e.g., BS EN 1176), featuring impact- absorbing shells beneath structures to reduce fall injuries. Secure seasoning, rounded edges, and age-applicable height limits minimize pitfalls during active play.

The £39,990 investment assured durable accoutrements resistant to riding and vandalization, with community discussion attesting safe access paths and clear sightlines for maternal supervision. These align with Lambeth Council’s green space safety protocols.

Norwood Park entered £62,348 in advancements, including a new multi-use play structure for seven- to 12- years-old, refurbished equipment, and a replaced hammock swing. Community input from groups like musketeers of Norwood Park shaped the design, aligning with the demesne’s part as a high- elevation green space with wildlife areas and panoramic views.

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu stressed the upgrades as part of Lambeth’s commitment to vibrant premises where children make imaginations and families connect. These advancements support the city’s ongoing modernization of green spaces for availability and occupant well- being.
