Wandsworth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Surrey Police confirm William “Billy” Smith, 35, was wrongly released from HMP Wandsworth on November 3. Officers are urgently working to find him.
The announcement was made just hours after it was reported that Brahim Kaddour- Cherif, an Algerian, had also been wrongfully released from captivity last Wednesday( October 29).
Smith appeared via a live videotape link from HMP Wandsworth on Monday, November 3, at Croydon Crown Court, where he was doomed to 45 months for colorful fraud offenses.
He’s characterized as clean-shaved, and bald.
Smith was last seen sporting black lurkers, cortege blue tracksuit bottoms with a white Nike” crack” on the left fund, and a cortege long- sleeve muumuu with the Nike totem” crack” across the front.
Smith may be anywhere in Surrey, but the police say he has ties to Woking.
In an effort to find him, the force is conducting numerous investigations quickly.
When Smith’s release was reported to the police is unclear.
Today, the Metropolitan Police verified that they were first made apprehensive of Kaddour-Cherif’s incorrect release history (November 4).
Kaddour-Cherif appeared in court following an incident at Lloyd Park in Walthamstow on March 30, 2024, according to court documents obtained by this publication.
According to documents, he purposefully displayed his genitalia so that someone would be terrified or worried.
On July 12, 2024, he entered a shamefaced plea and was brought before London Crown Court to be doomed.
Tooting’s Labour MP, Dr. Rosena Allin- Khan, has questioned how these cases happened.
Her inquiries come after the HM Inspectorate of incarcerations( HMIP) reported in 2024 that captivity workers” displayed an incapability to regard for captures during the working day.”
This is in spite of the nearly £900,000 that has been invested since Khalife’s purported escape in September 2023.
HMP Wandsworth has become “symbolic of the problems that characterize what is worst about the English prison system,” according to a report released last year.
The investigation claimed that the institution was overcrowded, in terrible circumstances, and that record keeping “was so poor.”
What steps are Surrey Police using in the manhunt?
Surrey Police are conducting their manhunt for William” Billy” Smith with several coordinated way. They’ve issued a critical appeal to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts, pressing his physical description and last given locales, including Woking and broader Surrey.
Officers are bearing door- to- door inquiries in neighborhoods where Smith may have connections. The police are also participating in intelligence and coordinating with other forces and agencies, using CCTV footage analysis and increased details to detect him snappily.
Given the soberness of his offenses and the pitfalls involved, Surrey Police are treating the hunt as a high precedent, marshaling coffers to insure nippy regain and public safety. These ways follow serious enterprises after analogous release crimes at HMP Wandsworth, egging calls for independent examinations to address systemic issues.
