London (Parliament Politic Magazine) – Rishi Sunak congratulates Prabowo Subianto on winning Indonesia’s 2024 Presidential Election, emphasizing bilateral collaboration and democratic celebration.
Rishi Sunak sent a congratulatory letter to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto for his victory in the 2024 Presidential Election.
As of Saturday, according to real count developments from the General Election Commission (KPU), Prabowo is succeeding the race with 57 percent of the votes, followed by Anies Baswedan at 25 percent and Ganjar Pranowo at 18 percent.
The congratulatory letter from Sunak was offered directly to Prabowo by the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, at Prabowo’s official residency in Widya Chandra, South Jakarta.
Quoted from Dominic Jermey’s account on X on Saturday, the British Ambassador conveyed gratitude for Prabowo’s hospitality during their gathering on Friday.
“I am delighted to discuss immediate matters, what lies ahead, and the significant achievements our countries can accomplish together. I feel honored to convey congratulations from @RishiSunak (British PM) on your success in the 2024 election,” noted Jermey.
He also didn’t ignore to congratulate all Indonesian citizens who exerted their voting rights in the largest democratic celebration. Indonesia carried the world’s largest single-day election on Wednesday. Hundreds of millions of people selected President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s successor that day, along with provincial and national lawmakers.
“I also congratulate hundreds of thousands of candidates who campaigned across the archipelago. A truly epic festival of democracy #pemilu2024,” Jermey counted, referring to the Indonesian word for “election”.
Last year, Rishi Sunak met President Joko Widodo of Indonesia at the G7 Summit in Japan.
The leaders examined the significant opportunities to increase trade and investment between the UK and Indonesia, especially in renewable energy and new solar and hydrogen projects.
The Prime Minister greeted Indonesia’s recent progress in addressing deforestation and their enthusiastic participation in the Forest & Climate Leaders Partnership launched at COP27 in Glasgow.
The leaders are also concerned with increasing UK engagement in the Indo-Pacific, including coordination with ASEAN, and wider regional security issues.
