MANCHESTER, June 27 (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that 13 men are scheduled to stand trial in September following a complex investigation into the sexual abuse of a woman. The victim, who is the wife of one of the accused men, was allegedly drugged and abused over a 20-year period between 2004 and 2025.
The husband, a man in his 60s from Stockport, faces 48 total charges including rape and sexual assault. While he has entered guilty pleas for 15 charges, he continues to deny 33 of the counts. Due to British law regarding lifelong anonymity for the victim, neither the husband nor the specific location of the residence can be named by media outlets to prevent identification of the woman.
A UK court lifted reporting restrictions on June 26, 2026, allowing the identification of the 13 co-defendants. These men, aged between 28 and 73, face various charges including rape, conspiracy to rape, and administering a substance with intent.
One co-defendant, 59-year-old Keith Fotheringham from Dundee, Scotland, has already pleaded guilty to all four sexual offences leveled against him and remains in custody. The remaining 12 co-defendants have denied the charges and are set to face a full trial. This group includes high-profile community members such as former Taunton Town Football Club chief executive Karl Lindsay and senior paramedic Jonathan Kirk.
The scale of the case has required significant adjustments at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court. Due to the lack of physical space in the dock to accommodate 13 defendants alongside their legal teams and security, the court is utilizing a hybrid system. Several defendants are expected to participate via video links from prisons or separate rooms to ensure the proceedings can function.
The investigation involved the processing of massive amounts of encrypted digital evidence, including chat logs and video files. Technical teams spent months auditing this information to build the prosecution case.
“Thirteen men are scheduled to stand trial in September 2026 following a complex Greater Manchester Police investigation into the prolonged drugging and sexual abuse of a woman by her husband and numerous co-conspirators,” according to the official statement.
A preliminary administrative hearing is set for August 24, 2026. The full trial is estimated to span between 12 and 15 weeks, with formal proceedings scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026. Legal teams continue to manage the heavy caseload and evidentiary requirements ahead of the start date.
