Three hospitalized after car crashes into restaurant front in Coventry Street

London (Parliament Politics Magazine) – An accident in London has left three people hospitalized, with a car smashing into a restaurant and one individual trapped inside

The collision happened at the junction of Country Street and Jauamaret near Piccadilly Circus approximately at 6:50 PM. 

Police, staff from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and the London Ambulance Service (LAS), visited the incident place.

One individual who was trapped inside was freed by firefighters, they used a cutting tool to remove a door from the car. 

London Ambulance Service (LAS) staff rescued the driver, a pedestrian, and one other person and took them to the hospital.

The Metropolitan police spokesperson said, “Witnesses reported a car mounted the pavement before colliding with a building”.

Further, he stated, “Two people – a pedestrian and a passenger who was in the car – were taken to hospital for treatment. The driver of the car was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution”.

The London Ambulance Service spokesperson said, “We were called at 6:52 pm today (12 November) to reports of an incident at Coventry Street, W1D”.

He added, “We sent three ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and a medic in a fast response car. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. We treated three patients at the scene. We took all three to a major trauma centre, two as a priority”. 

London Fire Brigade spokesperson stated: “A vehicle collided with the front of a restaurant. Firefighters released one person who was confirmed to be trapped inside the vehicle, using cutting gear to remove one of the vehicle’s doors. They were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews, along with two further patients”. 

He added further, “The Brigade was called at 6.59 pm and Control Officers mobilised two fire engines from Soho Fire Station and two fire rescue units from Euston and Battersea fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder from Soho Fire Station also attended the scene”. 

According to police, no other major injuries have been reported and they are not treating the clash as terrorism-related

A shop worker at the crash scene explained the noise as a “massive bang”. One anonymous witness said, “I was scared it was a terror attack. It was so loud. I just saw the car come speedily and hit the curb near the fountain then fly off onto the pavement”. 

Alexandra, another witness, told the media: “Things happen all the time in this area. Especially in the evening. There are so many tourists here all the time”. 

South African tourist Cathy, who was at the incident place, said: “When we arrived the whole area was cordoned off by cops. There were ambulances and fire engines”. 

She added, “There was a black car that had crashed into a barrier. We saw someone being taken into an ambulance”.

Roads are still close near the area of the incident.
