UK (Parliament Politic Magazine) – British enterprises should seize opportunities to invest in Shanghai. That was the resounding message conveyed by Shanghai representatives at the Invest in Shanghai, Share the Future promotion event in London. Shanghai, China’s largest city and a prominent global financial hub, stands as a beacon of opportunity. 

Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Zheng Zeguang, graced the event with his presence and emphasized that Shanghai has consistently spearheaded China’s reform and opening-up initiatives. Renowned for its openness, innovation, and inclusiveness, Shanghai has established itself as a trailblazer.

Ambassador Zheng highlighted that Shanghai’s boundless potential stems from its exceptional policy support, robust development foundation, abundant talent pool, and advantageous geographical location. Investing in this vibrant city is synonymous with seizing future opportunities.

By capitalizing on the event’s momentum, British enterprises can tap into Shanghai’s thriving business ecosystem and unlock a world of possibilities. The city’s dynamic environment, coupled with its unwavering commitment to progress, makes it an ideal destination for investment.

China Welcomes UK To Make Investments In China 

Ambassador Zheng provided an overview of China’s economic progress since the start of this year, emphasizing the implementation of practical and effective strategies to address the challenges posed by a sluggish global economy.

Notably, he highlighted the establishment of 18,532 foreign-invested enterprises in China during the first five months of this year, representing a remarkable year-on-year surge of 38.3 percent. Zheng emphasized that this surge serves as a resounding vote of confidence from foreign businesses in China’s promising development prospects.

Zheng extended a warm invitation to UK businesses, urging their active participation in three significant events: the China International Fair for Trade in Services, the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and the 6th China International Import Expo. These remarkable gatherings are scheduled to take place in Shanghai during the latter half of this year.

In his address, Zheng expressed his hope that the British business community would not be swayed by discussions surrounding decoupling or de-risking. Instead, he encouraged them to seize the opportunity to foster practical collaboration with China and Shanghai. Such endeavors would undoubtedly contribute to the enhancement of China-UK economic and trade relations, while simultaneously strengthening the bond between the people of both nations.

UK Businesses Optimistic About Investments In The UK

Delegates from Shanghai delivered presentations to highlight the city’s remarkable development and thriving business environment. The event was attended by approximately 300 representatives from the Shanghai delegation, as well as members of the Chinese and British business communities.

During the event held on Tuesday, business associations and enterprises from the United Kingdom (UK) expressed their recognition of Shanghai as a significant hub for trade and collaboration. They emphasized the immense investment potential that the Chinese economic powerhouse offers.

Invest Shanghai Event Highlighted The Recent Developments 

At the Invest Shanghai event, a governmental platform dedicated to facilitating foreign investment in Shanghai, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Invest Shanghai and the CBBC. Additionally, the Jiading District government of Shanghai and Johnson Matthey (Shanghai) Chemicals Ltd. signed an investment intention agreement.

During the event, delegates from Shanghai delivered presentations to showcase the city’s remarkable development and favorable business environment. Vice Mayor Xie Dong emphasized that Shanghai serves as a vital gateway for exchanges between China and the UK. It provides an excellent opportunity for British companies to enter the Chinese market and acts as a bridge for Chinese enterprises to venture into the British market.

According to Vice Mayor Xie, the cumulative investment from the UK in Shanghai had exceeded 3.8 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2022. Similarly, Shanghai enterprises had invested more than 4.7 billion U.S. dollars in the UK.

By joining forces, Shanghai and London have the ability to drive innovation, expedite business growth, and facilitate cultural exchanges.

This event served as a crucial component of an overseas promotion campaign aimed at attracting investments in Shanghai.
