UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Singer-songwriter Barry Manilow has disclosed plans for surgery after doctors discovered a cancerous spot on his lung, his team confirmed.

One of the biggest stars of the 1970s and 1980s, Manilow, claimed that it was “pure luck” that medical professionals discovered the condition early during an MRI after weeks of bronchitis.

The 82-year-old, who is well-known for a number of hits, such as Copacabana, Could It Be Magic, and Mandy, stated that doctors do not think it has spread and that he won’t require radiation or chemotherapy.

In a statement on Instagram, he said:

“As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.

The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed.

It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

He continued by saying that the “bad news” is that he is “going into surgery to have the spot removed” following the conclusion of his most recent tour.

“The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis.

So that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

He reminded people to be examined

“if you have even the slightest symptom.”

Manilow announced that his January arena shows will be rescheduled because he will require a month to recuperate.

He declared that he was “counting down the days” until he could resume performing.

What did his representatives say about prognosis?

Barry Manilow’s representatives stated on December 22, 2025, that his prognosis is excellent, describing the cancerous spot on his lung as early- stage with no substantiation of spread.

They emphasized no need for chemotherapy or radiationpost-surgery, calling the discovery” pure luck” from an MRI urged by bronchitis, and expressed full confidence in a positive recovery allowing tallied shows.

Doctors verified the stage one lung cancer is contained, with conformational tests supporting a straightforward surgical junking and quick return to health for the 82- year-old songwriter.
