City of Westminster (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Westminster as part of global protests opposing the Trump administration’s policies and actions on key global issues.
On Saturday afternoon, crowds gathered in Trafalgar Square with placards that said “Dump Trump” and “No to Maga Hate.”
The march is one of hundreds of so-called “hands off” protests taking place all around the world, including in Paris, Berlin, and US cities.
More than 150 organizations, including trade unions and civil rights organizations, have organized the movement.
Some of the protesters screaming “Hands off the UK” have congregated in Trafalgar Square (Maja Smiejkowska/PA).
Protesters in Westminster used the slogans “Hands off Ukraine” and “Hands off the UK” to express their worries.
Clarke Reinstein, 73, of Rhode Island, was one among the demonstrators. He told the PA news agency that he was “disappointed in my fellow Americans” because Mr. Trump was elected.
“I’ve been in London for two months and I like being over here because people think a little differently,”
he said
“They made a mistake over Brexit – but they didn’t fall over like the Americans have.”
The American flag that had been given to her grandfather, a veteran of World War II, was draped over a 37-year-old Philadelphia lady.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told PA that she was protesting because of Mr. Trump’s presidency’s “absolute, mind-blowing insipidness.”
“I don’t want to alienate the rest of the world,”
she said.
“It’s not going to be useful for anyone in the long run. I felt powerless and I needed to come out and say something.
I have friends in the United States who are marching in protest, and I wanted to march with them in solidarity.”
Musk’s work in the Trump administration is perceived as a component of a larger initiative to remove consumer safeguards and destroy federal agencies, especially as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Widespread discontent with Trump’s policies and their alleged effects on democracy, human rights, and economic stability are reflected in these protests.
There are hundreds of protests around the world, including this one in London (Maja Smiejkowska/PA).
The demonstration was centered in Westminster’s Trafalgar Square, which attracted a sizable audience calling for reform and against divided politics.
Similar demonstrations have previously been planned by organizations like Stop Trump during Trump’s trips to the UK, involving sizable gatherings with symbolic displays like the “Trump Baby” balloon.
Trump’s policies, such as his views on immigration, climate change, and divisive speech, were among the things that protesters sought to draw attention to.
She clarified that her grandfather, who fought at the wartime Cambridgeshire airbase Duxford, had received the flag she was wearing.
“This is the flag they give a veteran when they pass away,” she said.
“My grandfather fought fascism and now to see it returning, he would be turning in his grave.”
American expatriates make up a large portion of the demonstrators in the British capital.
Albuquerque resident Brent Robertson, 56, criticized Mr. Trump’s tariffs.
Thursday saw the implementation of a 25% tax on all foreign automobile imports into the United States, and on Saturday morning, a broader “baseline” 10% duty on international goods went into effect.
Mr Robertson said: “Stupid is not the word.
He is shooting himself and all of us as Americans, just so he can make himself look like a tough guy.”
What are the main reasons behind the protests against Trump’s visit?
Protesters claim that Trump’s plans to cut the government workforce and shut down Social Security Administration field offices will hurt disadvantaged groups and jeopardize vital services, hence they are resisting these measures.
With markets collapsing and tensions over international trade rising, the implementation of tariffs has caused economic instability. These measures, according to protesters, are bad for the economy and regular people.
Trump’s views on immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, and other social problems are being protested by his detractors. They contend that his policies hurt underprivileged communities and cause division.
Criticizing Trump’s attitude to climate change and his reversal of environmental safeguards, environmental groups are also taking part.
