Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration’s preparations revealed

The full schedule of events to honour the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year has been released by Buckingham Palace.

The Queen will become the first British monarch to mark a 70-year reign with a Platinum Jubilee on February 6th.

The first event in the celebration will be a competition to invent a new pudding to commemorate the Queen’s reign.

Dame Mary Berry and Monica Galetti from Masterchef will judge the finalists.

They will reveal the recipe to the public and the pudding will be served during the bank holiday weekend at Big Jubilee Lunches.

It’s unclear which events will personally be attended by the queen herself. After an overnight hospital visit in October, her medical staff urged her to rest for several weeks.

What and when?

The Platinum Pudding Competition begins on January 10th. The public is invited to prepare a dish to commemorate the Queen’s reign.

From the 12th to the 15th of May, a 90-minute show at Windsor Castle will feature over 1,000 performers and 500 horses, presenting a period through history from Elizabeth I to the present day.

Thursday, June 2nd, will be the beginning of the long weekend, and for the first time since the outbreak, Trooping the Colour will be performed in its entirety. More than 1,400 soldiers, 400 musicians and 200 horses will take part in the parade.

On the same day, more than 1,500 Platinum Jubilee beacons will be illuminated around the UK, UK Overseas Territories, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands. Commonwealth countries’ capital cities will light beacons for the first time.

Thanksgiving service for the Queen’s reign will be held June 3rd, the second day of the Bank Holiday weekend at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday.

A Platinum Party will be held at Buckingham Palace on Saturday, June 4th, where members of the public can apply to attend a live music. The performers haven’t been announced, but it is expected to bring together the world’s biggest artists. In February, a ballot will be held for residents of the UK to get tickets.

On June 5th, Sunday, people all across the country will be encouraged to join in the Big Jubilee Lunch, which will include street festivities all throughout the country. The Platinum Jubilee Pageant will involve 5,000 people from the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth performing around Buckingham Palace.

Children at primary and secondary schools are invited to draw a picture of their dreams and hopes for the world in the next 70 years. The selected ones will be printed on silk flags and carried in the procession by secondary school students.

Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Windsor Castle, will host three exhibitions in July commemorating the Queen’s ascension to the throne, coronation, and jubilees. Portraits, as well as the outfits and jewellery worn for each occasion, will be included.
