The Queen wishes for Camilla to become ‘queen consort’ to Charles

LONDON (Parliament Politics Magazine) – The Queen has endorsed the Duchess of Cornwall as Queen Camilla in her Platinum Jubilee speech to the country.

Her Majesty unexpectedly voiced her “sincere wish” that Camilla be recognised as queen consort when the Prince of Wales becomes king in a statement to the nation to commemorate Accession Day and the start of her Jubilee year.

The Queen said, reflecting on the public’s support during her 70-year reign that she wanted to express thanks for her support.

“I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me. And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as queen consort as she continues her own loyal service.” the Queen wrote in her message.

Her Majesty wishes to express her opinions on the institution’s future and to assist in making the commencement of her son’s reign as smooth as possible.

Despite approaching her 96th birthday in April, Queen renewed her lifelong commitment of service as she prepares to commemorate the day King George VI, her father passed and she ascended to the throne on 6 February 1952.

“As we mark this anniversary, it gives me pleasure to renew to you the pledge I gave in 1947 that my life will always be devoted to your service,” she said.

She also praised her family for their support and alluded to the Queen Mother’s role as queen consort.

“I am fortunate to have had the steadfast and loving support of my family. I was blessed that in Prince Philip I had a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and unselfishly make the sacrifices that go with it. It is a role I saw my own mother perform during my father’s reign.” the Queen wrote.

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, stated: Her Majesty The Queen is celebrating her platinum jubilee today, making her the first British monarch to do so.

She has demonstrated an inspiring sense of duty and steadfast loyalty to this country throughout her seven-decade reign. He added that he pays his respect to her service of many years and looks forward to the summer when they will have a chance to honour her historic reign as a country.
