LONDON, June 17 (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Ali Reza Fallahi, a 45-year-old British-Iranian national, has been charged with arson following an attack on a protest memorial wall in the Golders Green area of north London. Police confirmed the charges on Wednesday, stating the incident occurred on April 27, 2026.
Fallahi, a resident of Ilford, is accused of setting fire to a memorial cabinet located on Limes Avenue shortly after midnight. The structure, known as the Eternal Wall, displays tributes to anti-government protesters killed during crackdowns in Iran, alongside memorials for victims of the October 7 Nova music festival. Although the fire damaged the cabinet, authorities noted it was extinguished quickly and did not spread to the primary installation.
The investigation into the incident is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing London as part of a wider inquiry into a wave of violence affecting the local Jewish community and the Iranian diaspora. This broader pattern includes the arson of four Hatzola emergency vehicles and the stabbing of two Jewish men in the area. These developments have prompted the UK government to escalate the national terrorism threat level from substantial to severe.
Addressing the recent legal progress, Commander Helen Flanagan stated, “This charge marks another step forward in one of the investigations into the series of arson attacks targeting the Jewish community and Iranian diaspora in London.”
Authorities are actively examining potential operational or financial connections between the suspects and the Iranian state. While a 38-year-old woman was previously arrested in connection with the memorial fire, she has since been released with no further action taken against her. Fallahi is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 18, 2026, to face the charges.
