Man dies after being hit by car on Old Kent Road in Southwark

Southwark (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Police are appealing for witnesses after a man struck by a car on Old Kent Road in Southwark died, as officers work to piece together the fatal collision.

Yesterday, November 21, at around seven in the morning, the London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police arrived at Old Kent Road in Bermondsey. 

The cyclist, a 34- year-old man, was treated at the scene in Southwark after a car struck him close to the crossroad with Dunton Road. 

The man passed away at that point despite attempts to save his life. 

Officers with technical training are aiding his next of kin, who have been notified. 

The 68- time-old manly motorist of the vehicle in question did n’t stop at the scene. 

Shortly later, the police located him and detained him on suspicion of causing death by reckless driving. 

He was freed on bond while further disquisition was conducted. 

Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“An investigation is underway, and officers are working to establish what happened.

I’m appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or who may have captured footage of it on their dashcam, to please contact us as soon as possible.”

Yesterday a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called at 6.57am today (21 November) to reports of a road traffic collision in Old Kent Road, Bermondsey.

We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer to the scene. 

We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

The first paramedic arrived in less than five minutes.

Sadly despite attempts to save his life, a man died at the scene.”
